2018 Volvo XC90 Review
At this year New York Auto Show we had a chance to see few premiers. One of the most exciting ones is definitely 2018 Volvo XC90. Great looking SUV attract the attention of many not only with its look, but also with its features, comfort, space, materials and performance to go with all that. If you go to Volvo’s official website, you will see that they describe the 2018 Volvo XC90 as “Swedish Grace” which this car actually is. Attention to details is what Volvo did while making this model, and it is what we will do reviewing this model – pay attention to details.
What is so special about 2018 Volvo XC90?
Volvo continues to offer its XC90 SUV in variants with 5 and 7 seats, so that’s good news. However the biggest attention on its premiere caused 4-seater, top trim, Excellence. Its equipment list is beyond long. Swedish automaker also offered some features which are unique on the market. One of this kind of features is “Lounge Concept”. This concept includes a footrest and an LCD screen placed instead of front passenger seat.
But not only Excellence comes fully equipped. Even the base trim of this prestigious SUV comes with a Pilot Assist II semi-autonomous driving. This was one of the things all newspapers spoke about. What is this really about? It is a similar feature to Tesla’s Autipilot system, since it adds steering assistance to adaptive cruise control. This was semi-autonomous highway driving system is created, which follows the traffic flow by controlling acceleration, braking, and steering. Good thing about this new system is also the fact that driver can easily override it, via cruise control, acceleration or steering wheel.
Safety system is also upgraded, as expected, since we talk about Volvo vehicle. Volvo’s City Safety feature now can detect and avoid large animals as well.
Engines of the 2018 Volvo XC90
If you like diversity when it comes to your engine choice than 2018 Volvo XC90 is just right for you. This amazing high quality SUV comes with 3 engines, including diesel, petrol and hybrid combination of petrol engine and electric motor. All come with all-wheel drive as standard.
Petrol engine for so called T6, comes with 4-cylinders, 2.0-liter displacement and 320 hp. It is both supercharged and turbocharged and has 295 lb-ft of torque. 2018 Volvo XC90 with this enigne comes mated to an 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission.
Diesel unit is 2.0-liter 4-cylinder twin turbo-charged D5 engine. It is capable to deliver up to 225 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque, while its transmission choice is the same as for the T6. 2018 Volvo XC90 with diesel engine now has the PowerPulse, feature designed to eliminate the turbo drag.
Last option is plug-in hybrid powertrain which offers 407 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. It combines supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine with electric motor.
2018 Volvo XC90 Pricing specs and sales date
Pricing specs of recently released 2018 Volvo XC90 are also available. New model with MSRP $48,900, while top trim, the most luxurious one will start with more than double price tag. 2018 XC90 Excellence is priced at $105,895. Volvo will distribute the model to its dealers this summer.
