2018 Scion FRS Price, release date
Scion is a brand widely known for producing basic cars targeted to young drivers. In addition, Scion also releases Special Editions to elicit consumer interest. This time, the automaker is set to launch the FR-S sports car for the 2018 model year. The automaker says that only 1000 units of the model will be produced making it the rarest release series model ever for the Toyota subsidiary. The model comes with slight changes to improve its luxury and sportiness offering. For the 2018 Scion FRS, the automaker will offer both as a coupe and sedan body styles.
2018 Scion FRS Exterior and Interior
The exterior will receive some few touches. To start with, the sedan will be 20 inches longer and 4 inches taller than the coupe so as to offer improved interior room. At the front, the 2018 Scion FRS will feature a toned down nose with sharp looking headlights and an open-mouth lower air intake. The fog lights design from the outgoing model will be carried over. Its slightly flared fenders will also be carried over. The addition of two doors will prolong its arching roofline. At the rear, the overhang will be longer but will retain the overall styling of the current model. The FR-S will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels and will feature a new Lunar Storm exterior color.
The interior exudes a mix of luxury and sportiness which is something of a boast to Scion since it mostly concentrates on making economy cars which don’t often feature the word “luxury” in their definition. Back to the interior styling, Scion has upholstered the seats with camel leather mixed with Alcantara trim. The seats are also heated. The steering wheel, shifter and brake lever are also wrapped in black leather. Colored camel leather contrasted with accent stitching continues throughout the cabin. Other features include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, HID headlight and a 8-speaker audio system. The new 2018 Scion FRS will also have a large touch-screen display and connectivity options such as Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and Smartphone integration. For safety, the Scion FR-S will likely get a rear-view camera, lane departure warning and a package of driving assists as an option.
2018 Scion FRS Engine
It is not yet clear which drive-train the new 2018 Scion FRS will have. However, there are rumors that the automaker will add two more drive-trains to join the current one. The current engine on the 2018 Scion FRS coupe is a 2.0 L boxer engine which comes good with 200 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission system and power is sent to rear wheels.
There are reports that the new 2018 Scion FRS will also feature a 2.0 L turbocharged engine borrowed from the current Subaru Legacy. This engine is capable of producing 300 hp. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission system. There are also rumors of a hybrid drive-train. The details about this drive-train are not yet available but it is believed that Toyota is working on a system that will be compatible with the Subaru’s boxer engine.
